Online Journalism- netiquette

Personally I thought these posts were common sense. It had your basic "golden rule" along with don't spam. However, I do think that there is something to be said for the idea of Netiquette itself because many people do not use it.

Especially in the professional online journalism world, people should understand and use Netiquette. Many people think that this only applies to when they are at work or doing professional things. However, two years ago I did some research on employers googleing job applicants. I also found out that often times employers will often google their employees. Some argue that this is an invasion of privacy but I totally dissagree. If you post it in the public domain anyone has the right to view it. So although Netiquette is not talking about your facebook account as much as the e-mails and disscusion groups you get in I think it applies. You should keep your blog, facebook, or myspace professional.

Even keeping two blogs I think is a good idea. One that can act as a portfolio and one that is a family or personal blog. My big pet peeve is not with people who forget the avitar is human (maybe because I don't spend much time using them) but with the people who post drunk party pictures and get upset when their boss finds them.
